Autoclavable VacuLUX Mouthpiece
Instructions for Use
Intended Use:
The VacuLUX Mouthpiece is intended for use by dental professionals for isolation: bite block, cheek retractor, tongue guard and high volume evacuation.
Selecting the Mouthpiece:
To select the correct mouthpiece size, measure the patient’s interincisal opening. If between sizes, you may select the smaller size.
Approximate Interincisal Opening of Mouthpiece Sizes
- Pediatric (AVLUXP): < 30 mm
- Small (AVLUXS): 30 mm
- Medium (AVLUXM): 30-45 mm
- Large (AVLUXL): > 45 mm
Attaching the Mouthpiece:
Slide the Mouthpiece onto the device until the locking barbs engage. Water or mouthpiece lubricant may be used to lubricate the inside surface of the Mouthpiece sleeve to ease attachment.
Placing the Mouthpiece:
Prior to placing the Mouthpiece within the patient’s oral cavity, moisten the Mouthpiece and the patient’s lips.
- Hold the sides of the isolation adapter with your index finger and thumb. With your other hand, fold the Cheek Shield onto the Tongue Retractor. Gently slide the folded mouthpiece into the buccal vestibule on the side to receive treatment. Angle the mouthpiece to allow the lower edge of the Tongue Retractor to move along the buccal edge of the teeth.
- Move the bite block onto occlusal surfaces of the teeth, just distal to the mandibular cuspid. Instruct patient to “rest gently” on the bite block to secure.
- Place the Cheek Shield into the buccal vestibule. Move the Isthmus onto the retromolar pad behind the maxillary tuberosity. Adjust the Tongue Retractor in the lingual vestibule as needed. Move the bite block distally to provide more vertical working room.
Sterilization Instructions:
Mouthpieces must be sterilized prior to use and between patients.
- Thoroughly rinse the mouthpiece while still attached to the HVE vacuum line before removing, using your air/water syringe, or by placing in a cup of water
- Remove the mouthpiece from the adapter and place it in your Ultrasonic Cleaner for 15 minutes
- Thoroughly scrub the mouthpiece with a detergent solution or soap and water, using a brush to reach inside flap openings and mouthpiece connector region
- Rinse under running water, air-dry, and place inside autoclave pouch for sterilization
- Sterilize in a steam-autoclave machine at a minimum of 121 Degrees C / 250 Degrees F for a minimum of 30 minutes
- Allow for a 30 minute minimum drying cycle.
To extend the life of your mouthpiece:
- DO NOT let debris sit in the mouthpiece
- Bring mouthpieces to your Sterilization Room as soon as possible
WARNINGS
Do not use if the individual Mouthpiece package has been previously damaged or opened. Non-sterile Mouthpieces are individually packaged in bags and must be sterilized before use according to sterilization instruction.
Be sure to use established protocols and patient monitoring when using the Mouthpiece in conjunction with sedation dentistry. Patient management by a certified anesthesiologist is strongly recommended.
PRECAUTIONS
When performing dental procedures requiring high levels of blood evacuation, it is recommended that the Mouthpiece be intermittently flushed with water to prevent coagulation in the Mouthpiece to avoid loss of suction and light transmission.
